Hi! My name is Ryoko Yamazaki, and I am a Portland-based English to Japanese freelance translator / interpreter / Japanese language teacher. I have more than 7 years of experience serving in the translation industry and 15 years in the education sector, both in Japan and the U.S. I’ve translated various types of texts, from University brochures, study-exchange program websites, gemology institute’s learning materials to blog articles about Yoga and also served as an interpreter for educational and business settings. I specialize in education & learning, mind & wellness and business communication.
I’m originally from Nagano, a beautiful countryside in Japan, and I’ve lived in the United States for more than 7 years (Portland 6 years, Ashland 1 year) and make a regular trip back to Japan to see my family and current trend in my home country. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Waseda University (Tokyo) with focus on literature, a Master of Education degree from Portland State University (OR, USA) and a Master of Arts degree from Waseda University specialized in Japanese applied linguistics. I’ve also attended interpretation and translation courses at Simul Academy (Tokyo) and a graduate interpretation course at Portland States University for my professional development.
